Episode 299: Galactus and Friends

This week the word is cartoons. The nerds discuss the differences between cartoons and comic books and why (or why not?) they each prefer one over the other. They talk a long time about comics and cartoons, movie adaptions thereof, the gore factor, and more. Then Keith talks about life stuff including chasing down a UPS truck, and reveals his ideas for incorporating the new Spelljammer stuff into Eberron. They each talk about the long trips they’re about to depart on, and yammer a little about shows they are watching, the games they are playing, and the books they are reading.

Episode 298: Trackanon Says “Dance!”

This week the word is Trackanon, which the nerds start by explaining. Then Andy talks about a tree that almost fell on his house and how he bought a chainsaw to cut it up with. He also carries out about the joy of Ryobi power tools and their interchangeable battery packs. Keith reports on various topics including the saga of his ten frozen Giordano’s pizzas and what’s currently going on in his D&D campaign. Other topics include the start of season 4 of Westworld, different styles of stand-up comedy, Zorak on “Intergalactic Love Connection,” the villainous roles of David Warner, a bar in Ithaca called the Rongovian Embassy, Mythic Quest’s “A Dark Quiet Death,” the Marvel Comic and Cinematic Universes, and Andy’s plans for the epic game he plans to run at Burning Man, called Dustworld.

Episode 292: Return of the Carbuncle

This week the word is Carbuncle (again). First, Keith reports on a very successful D&D session he just ran, featuring a carbuncle. Andy recommends that Keith watch a movie called The Endless, and Keith recommends Everything Everywhere All At Once, and also talks about a show called Servant. Then they discuss various late night talk shows they enjoy, and Keith mentions that a mysterious stranger has been sleeping in his car. Episode 290: The Carbuncle Doesn’t Care

This week the word is carbuncle. No, not a painful collection of boils, but the old D&D creature that looks like an armadillo with a gemstone in its forehead, which the nerds were reminded of by a recent meme. The discussion includes other wacky monsters like the Nilbog and the Hell-Cow. Next, Keith gives a report on his D&D campaign, and challenges the assertion that Wheel of Fortune is “America’s Game.” Then they drop a series of spoiler curtains as they spend a lot of time talking about Star Trek Picard and Severance.

Episode 286: Thrilling Tales of Swords and Sorcery

This week the word is Eberron. Keith tells the story of how he won the D&D setting contest that made him famous, and they spend a lot of the show digging into those details, including Andy’s review of one of Keith’s Eberron books, Queen of Stone. Andy talks about The Man From Taured, and then they drop the spoiler curtain to discuss the end of season 1 of The Book of Boba Fett.

This week the word is Cookies. Topics include the crime of replacing chocolate chips with raisins, the recipe for Sweet Dream cookies, the best gluten-free flour substitute, rigging a baking contest during a D&D game, and biscuits vs scones. Then they get into a long discussion about discontinued candy and other lost foods. Moving on to media, they talk about Foundation and Dune and the importance of wacky side characters in huge epic dramas. They discuss a few other shows they’ve been watching, including, of course, Taskmaster. Lastly they briefly discuss Lower Decks and What If?

This week the word is Quisling, for reasons that become clear only after Andy talks about watching old videos of Norm MacDonald. Keith talks about the Bar None candy bar raises the question of discontinued food products. After first discussing what the word even means, the nerds discuss a few examples of palimpsests, the most notable of which being the book they’ve been reading, S. aka Ship of Theseus. Other topics include Tig Notaro, recent life issues including vaccinations, online conventions, Lower Decks, Debris, Solar Opposites, TikTok videos, Raised by Wolves, Kong vs. Godzilla, For All Mankind, favorite RPG moments, and Keith’s D&D campaign.
