Episode 193: The Baboon Reactor

This week the word is crud, since Keith still has the dreaded con crud. Keith talks about some of the things he noticed at the American Library Association conference. Andy talks about how much he enjoyed the movie Yesterday, and Keith discusses the new series called The Rook. Andy also talks about Brooklyn Nine Nine, which he’s now all caught up on, and Keith talks about seeing a Lonely Island concert. Other topics include Jerry Seinfeld’s original appearance on SNL, summer movies they haven’t seen yet, their favorite units of US currency, and what animal they would choose to be turned into (other than a lobster). Lastly, Andy talks about all the new games Looney Labs will be releasing in August.

Episode 192: Edifice not Oedipus

This week the word is Libraries. The nerds reminiscence about all the time they spent as youths going to the library, and how times have changed, even including the way we consume books. Keith describes a unique book experience called S and talks about new technology for reading comics. Andy tells the story of meeting Greykell in a library as a youth, and describes how that library building has just been torn down but the cool entrance artifact is being saved. Keith tells the story of how fake accents adopted during a model UN event led to an embarrassing incident in the library. Andy talks about getting ready to go to Origins, and Keith hints at the work he can’t talk about. Andy talks about watching old episodes of Star Trek Voyager again, working from a list of good and bad episodes he created by combining several notable episode lists. He also talks about getting caught up on Brooklyn Nine Nine. They conclude by discussing the word churlish.

Episode 190: Let’s Build That Reactor!

This week the word is Zone. The nerds spend a lot of time discussing The Twilight Zone, since Keith has been re-watching classic episodes and Andy always has things to say about his favorite show of all time. Keith addresses the question of his own favorite Star Wars quote and gives predictions for the next Star Wars trilogy. This week the word is Fairy Tale. The nerds talk about the concept of the “Fairy Tale Ending” and how modern fantasies like Game of Thrones often embrace dark, dystopian storylines instead. They talk about the differences between Andy’s Fairy Tale Fluxx and Keith’s Fairy Tale Gloom. Episode 186: When Worf Shows Up

This week the word is Reset. The nerds discuss various times the reset button has been pressed, and how it differs from the reboot. Andy tells Keith about the fun he had at PaulCon. Keith talks about his latest GoT bingo cards, and shares a few non-spoilery thoughts about Us. Then they lower the spoiler curtain and spend a lot of time discussing Star Trek Discovery’s season 2 finale, the penultimate episode of season 2 of the Orville, and the implications for season 3 of both shows. Lastly they talk about the 2nd and 3rd episodes of the new Twilight Zone.

This week the word is Scottish, since Keith was just in Scotland. This week the word is crabgrass. The nerds talk about what they mean by this writers’ term and wonder where it came from and how well known it is. Along they way they discuss the early days of LARPing, issues with The Last Jedi, “Mystery Box” stories, unreliable narrators, and their favorite movies in the Marvel franchise. Andy rants about an issue he had with Ant Man and the Wasp. Keith talks about Gloom of Thrones, and Andy talks about his first colonoscopy. This week the word is Cruisin’, since Keith has just returned from the JoCo Cruise and has many stories to tell. Of particular note is the enormous D&D game he ran, with 70 DMs and over 400 players. He also reports on how the concert by TMBG was affected by a huge storm, and a new James Ernest card game he learned on the cruise. Andy talks about a movie he’s been hearing about called The Wandering Earth and one he just saw, called Apollo 11.
